Drumbreak Dez makes music like getting hit with a truckload of flowers—or stubbing your toe on a gold bar. It’s melodic, crowded, reflective, funny, and just cocky enough to believe the impact was worth it.
His taste was built in a slightly crooked line: ’90s rock, a brief EDM phase, then a deeper love for rap through J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Odd Future, and Tyler, the Creator. He started out sounding like himself trying to sound like the people he loved, but some part of him always seemed to slip through anyway.
That part is still there. Dez is a geek at heart, naturally deadpan, and usually more interested in finding the lighter side of things than pretending to have everything figured out. He thinks in full bodies of work, tying small details across songs, visuals, and everything around them.
His latest project, MUTABLE, captures a period of transition and recalibration: the thoughts that show up after a long day, when priorities shift and the only real response is, “oh shit, oh well, carry on I guess.”
For now, success is simple: make something worth coming back to.
